Haswell in doubt for finals

Picture: Jonathan CarrollNewcastle City may be without Conor Haswell for the upcoming Black Diamond Cup finals series after the Blues defender was on Monday charged with high-grade charging.
The club are set to challenge the severity of the unreleasedpenalty at the judiciary later this week, but if unsuccessful Haswell could be suspended for the rest of City’s 2018 campaign.
The last-round incident, from Saturday’s opening bounce between hosts City and Terrigal Avoca at No.1 Sportsground, was classed by the match review committee as intentional withhigh contact and high impact.
Visiting Panthers midfielder Jack Grimmondwas left unconscious and stretchered from the field with Haswell adjudged to havemadecontact with hishead.
Haswell received a yellow card, resulting in a 15-minute sin-bin. Grimmond was taken to hospital andcleared of a broken jaw later that night, but remains an uncertain starter for next weekend.
As minor premiers, Terrigal Avoca have this weekend off before playing for aspot in the decider on either August 25 or 26. The preliminary finalshave been set for No.1 Sportsground and Adelaide Street Oval respectively.
Third-placed City meet sixth-placed Killarney Vale at Maitland on Saturday in one of three elimination semi-finals thisweekend. Singleton and Warners Bay go head-to-head at Muswellbrook on Saturday while Cardiff tackle Wyong Lakes, who snuck into the top-seven by winning their last three games, at Don Small Oval on Sunday.
Terrigal Avoca 10.13 (73) defeated City 7.10 (52) by 21 points in their most recentshowdown.
The Panthers also won their only other meeting this year, overcoming the Blues by 34 points at Hylton Moore Oval on June 16.
City and/or Terrigal Avoca have appeared in every Black Diamond Cup grand final from 2006, including two against each other.
